What is your life motto?
Live each day to the fullest and try to honor the good Lord in everything I do.
What three qualities contribute most to your success?
Life balance: Faith, family, and a good work ethic. One other thing I think makes people successful is “learn to laugh at yourself, others are already laughing at you.” Don’t take yourself so seriously!
What gives you hope?
My children. They serve as my constant reminder that what I do every day will influence their futures and the future of our nation’s youth.
What movie title best describes your life?
It’s a Wonderful Life. It’s a great movie on family, commitment, loyalty, and faith with a lot of humor in it.
What’s the best decision you’ve ever made?
The two best decisions I’ve ever made were becoming a Christian and marrying my wife. We raised four children that are happily married, and we have ten grandchildren and counting.
If you could live anywhere in the world, where would it be?
Texas - It’s a great state with great people and great companies with an entrepreneurial spirit and companies with integrity, like KDC.
COMMUNITY IMPACT
Envision Dallas Farmers Branch Campus Opens with Gratitude for a Dynamic Employee
The latest project with the KDC Cares Program is the new 210,000-square-foot facility for Envision Dallas in Farmers Branch. Following a year-and-a-half-long renovation, more than 200 guests and supporters attended the Grand Opening last October. The campus houses the organization’s operations, supporting and fulfilling the needs of more than 150,000 North Texans with vision loss. The Backstory Envision Dallas, formerly Dallas Lighthouse for the Blind, had been headquartered in a 30,000-square-foot facility at 4306 Capital Ave. in Dallas since 2020. To better aid and provide more services to visually impaired and blind North Texans, the organization acquired an industrial/flex facility at 1801 Valley View Lane. Envision Dallas’ goal was to renovate the property and relocate operations to the expanded and updated campus. The organization partnered with KDC, which worked pro bono as the development representative on the project. The new campus provides extensive and in-depth employment training, adaptive programs and education to the blind and visually impaired. It also includes an operational manufacturing facility, which employs and trains workers with vision loss. Remembrance Amid the Celebration While many dedicated volunteers are the reason the new facility is a reality today, one of the main forces behind the effort was Blake Lindsay. He was one of the major drivers in creating the new facility, but sadly, Blake passed away in December 2024. As Envision Dallas’ Manager of Outreach, Blake worked closely with KDC, Eby Construction (general contractor) and SPT Architecture (architect of record) on every step of the process, from design plans to completion. “Blake was involved with the renovation since day one” said KDC’s Steve Van Amburgh. “His intelligence, wit and love for learning about the development process was always refreshing and uplifting. Blake was also invaluable when it came to streamlining the process and keeping everyone updated.” Visually impaired since infancy, Blake worked for Envision Dallas and its predecessor, Dallas Lighthouse for the Blind, for many years. He was a tireless advocate for the blind, an outstanding motivational speaker and a noted author, writer and spokesman. Blake was a radio DJ for over two decades; his handle, “Blazin’ Blake Lindsay,” could be heard on the airwaves from top 40 stations, including KISS-FM and 98,7 K-LUV. In the corporate world, Lindsay worked with DART, Bank of America, and Zig Ziglar Corp. We thank and honor Blake for his dedication and love of this important new facility.
